The Best Workout in the World: A Trainer's Most Frequently Asked Question

Find a workout buddy and/or supportive community to go on your fitness journey with.

In 15 years of working in fitness as a personal trainer and group fitness coach, one of the most common questions people ask me is "What's the best way to workout"?

In a world where we have so much information at our fingertips, and 101 different people selling you their way as the "best in the world", the truth is that there are many great ways to workout. And no one way is universally the best.

The short answer is that we believe the best workout (for you) is the one that matters. And it's the workout you're willing and able to keep on doing, for weeks, months and years. In order to find that workout, you'll probably have to try a few! If you don't yet know what you like (and don't) then you need to just get started. But here are a few things to look for as you do that may help in your search for the best workout (for you):

  1. Results Aren't Always the Most Important Part

If you choose based purely on the result you're promised, but you hate the workout, keep looking. tTe result doesn't matter if you bail on the workout before you get there. Give your experience of a single workout, regardless of potential outcomes, an at least equal level of importance as you do your desired result. Focus on enjoying the process.

  2. Set Showing Up As Your Daily Standard

Too many of us put pressure on ourselves to make every workout as challenging as it can be to make sure it's effective, valuable, worth our time. When we set that as the measure of success, it can quickly lead to a self imposed expectation that is unrealistic and can make showing up to every workout even harder on the days you don't feel like it (and yes, there will ALWAYS be days you don't feel like it). Find something you can commit to doing regularly, even if it must be "less" than you think you should.

  3. Look for a Coach / Trainer / Community You Connect With

Everyone has a different style and approach and where you workout, as well as who you workout with, both matter! It will impact your experience and when you're with the right community it will help hold you accountable without making you feel guilty for being human.

Find somewhere you WANT to be.

The best workout in the world is the one you're willing and able to KEEP ON DOING. Until you find it, keep looking!

    It will be worth it.
